Piano on Park presents:
Cyrus von Hochstetter - My Music Notes: Part II (with Liana Guberman - soprano)
DISSONANCE: a Biography
In 'My Music Notes', 6-part series presented over the course of a year, pianist and composer Cyrus von Hochstetter will lead you to take a look under the hub of music and perhaps even hear music with a slightly new pair of ears.
Fret not, the subject of this evening is not dissonant music! Even the most pleasing music is full of dissonances. You might simply not have perceived them as such. Without dissonances, music would not have the ability to convey emotions as clearly and directly as it does or strum the strings of our soul. The way in which composers over the past centuries have dealt with dissonances and our own evolution in perceiving them tells a fascinating story. In search of this story, we will embark on a musical time-travel in the company of songs, and pieces for piano.
