As Beethoven bowed down before Händel, so now do the world-renowned saxophonist/composer Daniel Schnyder, bass trombonist David Taylor and violinist Mark Peskanov.

'Haendel in Harlem' depicts a fictive journey of the famous Baroque Composer G.F. Haendel to Manhattan, into our time and our musical world.
Historically this trip never took place. It was too dangerous at the time.
Hence we explore in this program the possibility of Haendel coming to America and joining us here with his creative mind.
Haendels treatment of rhythm and phrasing was indeed very American and many of his rhythm concepts have a hidden off beat quality.
His rhythm is much closer to jazz than the more defined, less loose approach by his fellow musician J.S. Bach.
This observation lead to the project 'Haendel in Harlem', where we hear the music travel freely and swiftly in between the old and new world.
As in Columbus' time the transatlantic trip is not easy and full of hidden 'dangers' and musical adventures.

About the Musicians:
Daniel Schnyder
The Swiss American composer Daniel was born 1961 in Zurich, Switzerland and lives in New York City.
Among his credits as a composer are commissions to write new works for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York, the Tonkuenstler Orchestra in Vienna, the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, The Norrlands Operan in Sweden, the Chicago Sinfonietta, the Vienna Art Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Opera of Bern, the NDR Orchestra in Hannover, the NDR Big Band in Germany, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the New York based new music group "Absolute Ensemble" under the direction of Kristjan Jaervi, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, the American Composers Orchestra, the Postclassical Ensemble in Washington, DC, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Opera Philadelphia besides many others.
David Taylor
Receiving B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Julliard School of Music, David Taylor started his playing career as a member of Leopold Stowkowski's American Symphony Orchestra, and by appearing with the New York Philharmonic under Pierre Boulez Almost simultaneously, he was a member of the Thad Jones Mel Lewis jazz band, and recorded with Duke Ellington (The New Orleans Suite), The Rolling Stones, and Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Mr. Taylor has recorded four solo albums (Koch, New World, and DMP) and has presented numerous recitals throughout the world (including Carnegie Recital Hall, Kaufman Auditorium at the Y at 92nd Street, and Merkin Hall).
Mark Peskanov
American virtuoso violinist and artistic visionary Mark Peskanov was born in Odessa. Peskanov sang before he could walk or talk, and soon became a star violin student at the famed Stolyarsky school. At fifteen, he emigrated to the United States, where he was immediately accepted at the Aspen Music Festival and the Juilliard School.
His phenomenal facility and musicianship won him both the Aspen and Juilliard concerto competitions, bringing him to the notice of Isaac Stern and Mstislav Rostropovich and rocketing him into the top echelons of the music world. Upon his debut with the Chicago Symphony, the Chicago Tribune called him a “sensational soloist.” The Cleveland Plain Dealer proclaimed, “Violinist Adds Glory to Odessa” and the New York Times declared, “Mark Peskanov is a tremendous young violinist and his Friday evening concert at Carnegie Hall was a triumph...He has it all—technique, temperament, and taste.”
