Indonesian pianist Ferdy Talan began his musical journey after winning the Jakarta piano competition in his teens. He came to New York to study at the Manhattan School of Music, but soon chose to seek out less conventional training, surrounding himself with mentors, likeminded performers and composers as a way to better define and refine his musical identity.
Talan has performed as a soloist in both his native Jakarta and New York and from 2005 to 2010, served as music director for the New York Theatre Ballet. Since then, he has participated in several multimedia performances and, together with pianist Noriko Suzuki, was a featured artist in Distinguished Concerts International’s performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at Carnegie Hall.
